Maine’s Net Energy Billing policy, while widely supported among consumers and advocates alike, continues to be the subject of significant speculation and legislative review at the State level. This review has the potential to impact the future of the NEB program as it currently exists and prevent new energy users and developers from taking advantage. While the review process is still taking place, there are numerous stakeholders and businesses supporting the continued benefit that the Net Energy Billing program provides. Recently, a coalition from Maine expressed their support for the continued success of the NEB program in a letter to state legislators, outlining the many benefits that this policy offers.
These benefits include hundreds of millions in investment supporting good Maine jobs, a significant injection of renewable energy into Maine’s electricity mix and helping residents and businesses of all sizes gain access to reduced utility costs. As state officials continue to deliberate on the best way to proceed with Maine’s new community solar program, the significant investment and adoption of the program over the past 12 months demonstrates just how beneficial this program is to so many different groups.
