Worthen Industries and Freedom Energy Logistics Announce Major Virtual Net Metering Contract with Four NH Hydropower Plants
Auburn, N.H., – Today Worthen Industries and their energy consultant, Freedom Logistics, announced that Worthen has entered into a virtual net metering contract with four small hydropower plants, located throughout the state of New Hampshire.
Virtual Net Metering is a program created by the legislature that allows for retail electricity consumers to partner, virtually, with small eligible renewable generators within the same utility territory. The customer gets to help support local renewable generators, protect the environment and earn rebate money, while the generator gets a reasonable rate for their production from the utility. Nashua-based Worthen Industries specializes in making adhesives, coatings and coated products.
“Freedom Energy’s philosophy on renewable energy aligns with our company-wide policy to promote and maintain environmentally responsible practices,” said Doria Brown, Worthen’s Sustainability Specialist. “Not only are we continuing to meet our sustainability goals through this unique virtual net metering program, but we can use the revenues we generate to off-set our power costs.”
Howard Plante, vice president of procurement at Freedom helped to negotiate the transaction, “this is a real win-win,” said Plante. “We are thrilled to be able to help Worthen partner with these local hydro generators. We have been doing virtual net metering deals for years, but only a few of our customers were eligible because you had to be a standard offer customer with the utility. Once SB321 became law, anyone could virtual net meter whether you bought from the utility or a third-party supplier, its been a real game changer.”
