CCA locks in a competitive electricity supply rate through October 2027 as market volatility continues across New England.
AUBURN and MERRIMACK, NH – October 15, 2026 – The Town of Merrimack and Freedom Energy Logistics (Freedom Energy) today announced that Merrimack renewed their Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program at $0.13588 per kWh through October 31, 2027, providing ongoing savings for the community. First Point Power will serve as the electricity supplier.
Eversource’s six-month default rate is $0.14009 per kWh effective August 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027. For the first few months, Merrimack’s CCA program offers savings of $0.00421 per kWh. The Town Council officially approved the program’s final plan more than two years ago, on July 15, 2024, and chose Freedom Energy to oversee its implementation.
“Merrimack’s CCA program enables our community to purchase electricity collectively, giving residents and businesses access to more stable, competitive rates as an alternative to Eversource default service,” said Nancy Harrington, Town Council Chairman, Merrimack. “We are pleased to renew the program and continue delivering savings for residents and small businesses amid regional energy price fluctuations. Through this initiative, the town uses the buying power of our nearly 26,800 residents to strengthen affordability, transparency, and local control over energy management.”
Merrimack is one of 12 New Hampshire towns receiving CCA services from Freedom Energy, and it is among four local communities renewing Community Choice Aggregation programs this fall. To date, CCA programs have enabled municipalities to help stabilize costs, promote price transparency, and foster local economic development in communities.
“By renewing Merrimack’s CCA program, we are helping residents and small businesses secure near-term savings while strengthening long-term price stability in an unpredictable energy market,” said Bart Fromuth, CEO of Freedom Energy. “At a time of continued volatility, this program delivers meaningful value, greater predictability, and added peace of mind for the community.”
Merrimack residents new to the community since the program’s original launch will receive opt-out notices by mail beginning in October. They will have 30 days to opt out of the CCA program before being transitioned from Eversource default service to the Merrimack CCA program. Residents who do not opt out may still leave the program at any time without fees or penalties. Customers who already receive electricity supply from a third-party supplier will not be affected. Merrimack aggregation customers will continue to receive electricity delivery service from Eversource, and any issues related to metering, billing, or power outages should continue to be directed to Eversource. Customers will also continue to receive their electric bills from Eversource.
About Community Choice Aggregation
Community Choice Aggregation allows municipalities to combine the purchasing power of residents and small businesses to secure competitive electricity supply rates and expand local energy choice. Through CCA programs, communities can help stabilize electricity costs, improve price transparency, and support local energy priorities. Many programs also offer access to renewable or lower-carbon supply options, helping municipalities advance sustainability goals while maintaining local control over energy procurement. By giving communities a greater role in electricity supply decisions, CCA programs can create long-term value, strengthen resilience, and better position participants to respond to changing market conditions.
