Cruising Through Time: A Day at Manchester’s Classic Car Show
The 25th Annual Manchester Rotary Club Car Show brought classic cars, community, food, music, and nostalgia together for a memorable day in downtown Manchester.

This year marked the 25th Annual Manchester Rotary Club Car Show, a beloved community event supported by thousands of spectators, sponsors, food vendors, and of course, plenty of pets. With awards presented across several categories, there is something for every car enthusiast to enjoy. This year's theme, "Cruising for a Cure," supports leukemia awareness and stem cell donations for local children and families.
The Day Begins With a Classic Car Cruise
For some of us, the Cruisin' Downtown Classic Car Show started early. As participants registered and began making their way through the streets of Manchester, spectators could catch a glimpse of the procession as vehicles were guided to their display spots. This was my third year waking up at 6 a.m. for a gym class in a historic mill building whose windows overlook the route. Throughout class, we found ourselves repeatedly looking out the windows, oohing and aahing as the cars rolled by.
For a moment, it felt as though the streets had traveled back in time as hundreds of vintage vehicles of every make and model slowly cruised by. Their proud owners drove with the windows rolled down and arms casually resting on the door sills, clearly excited for the day ahead. The unmistakable scent of gasoline lingered in the air, adding another layer of nostalgia to the experience. It was the perfect sneak peek of the incredible display that would soon fill the streets of downtown Manchester.

Exploring Manchester's Classic Car Scene
My on-foot adventure with friends began at Bridge Street Bridge, which had been closed to traffic so visitors could stroll freely. Imagine standing high above the rushing Merrimack River and bustling highway on a bridge lined with classic cars, creating a grand introduction to the event. While muscle cars dominated this section and are not personally my favorite, seeing them all lined up was still impressive.
As you approach the end of the bridge and enter downtown's historic Elm Street district, the aromas of food trucks begin to fill the air of the car's lined streets. Live music from local musicians grows louder as you near the stage set up right in the middle of the street. Everywhere you look, people of every age, and even dogs and their owners add to the festive atmosphere.
Two Standout Classics From the Show
Although you didn't ask, I definitely had my favorites this year: a 1970s Ford Country Squire and a Chevy Scottsdale pickup truck. Both vehicles radiated a sense of nostalgia from an era I never truly experienced myself, yet somehow still feel connected to through faint childhood memories. Each one seemed to paint a vivid picture of a time gone by. A rolling time capsule, if you will.
When I approached the Ford Country Squire, I immediately exclaimed, "Look at the wood paneling!" The classic station wagon features a rich brown interior and, in the very back, two seats facing each other, which can also fold down to create a flat surface to sleep! Instantly, I pictured a family road-tripping across America in the 1970s on their way to the Grand Canyon. The kids sat just far enough away from their parents to share laughs, whisper secrets, and maybe even engage in a little sibling bickering without Mom and Dad mom being close enough to do anything it!
The Chevy Scottsdale pickup truck stopped me in my tracks for a different reason. Its beautiful blue interior matched the exterior perfectly, creating a pleasing aesthetic you just don't see very often anymore. My jaw dropped when I saw the eight-foot bed. Imagine trying to park that today! The first scene that came to mind was a group of friends with epic bell-bottoms and long hair, sitting in the back, sipping soda from glass bottles. Maybe they were headed to a drive-in movie theater on a warm summer evening, ready for a night of cruising and good company.

More Than Just a Car Show
And honestly, if cars are not your thing, come for the dogs to pet, food, and have friendly conversations! We met so many friendly pups and people while exploring the main strip and side streets that they became just as much a highlight of the day as the cars themselves. What a beautiful way to bring community together and cannot wait until next year!
