Freedom Energy is pleased to share that the USGA has finalized its Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) procurement in support of the U.S. Open event held June 13-19, 2022, at The Country Club. Last summer, the USGA pledged to invest in community renewable energy projects and to purchase RECs to help reduce the U.S. Open’s carbon footprint for the event at The Country Club in the Town of Brookline. It was one of the many ways they embraced sustainable initiatives to hold the greenest US Open to date.

Freedom Energy worked with the USGA to fulfill the REC transaction by presenting various options for consideration that included solar RECs generated in Massachusetts. Freedom Energy assisted the USGA in procuring those solar RECs to match the total amount of electricity used at The Country Club during the month of June when the US Open was held.  The RECs purchased were generated in 2022 from three solar farms in Massachusetts.

Our team appreciated partnering with the USGA to assist them in meeting their sustainability goals. Read more about all the steps they took to deliver the most sustainable U.S. Open Championship on-site experience to date.
