A First Look at the Climatetech Ecosystem
After joining Freedom Energy earlier this summer, I have had the opportunity to attend several industry events—including a summer networking event at Greentown Labs. That experience made me aware of the upcoming Disciplined Entrepreneurship for Climate and Energy Ventures book launch, which I was curious to learn more about at the Climatetech Summit in November.
I had the opportunity to attend the Climatetech Summit for the very first time this November, and it was a day filled with information, networking, and inspiration. The summit brought together entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, investors, policymakers, and climate specialists—all together with one goal: accelerating solutions for people and the planet.
Key Voices Driving Innovation and Collaboration
The summit began with remarks from Shiv Bhakta, CEO of Active Surfaces, who shared his journey from prototyping at Greentown to joining programs like ACCEL and Greentown Go Build 2023. Georgina Campbell Flatter, Greentown's CEO, followed with a powerful reminder about the importance of "and"—energy and climate, innovation and scale, prosperity for both people and planet. She quoted: "Innovation doesn't happen alone, it happens together."
A keynote fireside chat with Eric Paley, Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development for Massachusetts, and Krishna Jonnalagadda, CTO of GE Vernova, reflected on Massachusetts' legacy of invention and GE Vernova's role in shaping the future of clean energy.

Spotlighting Climate Ventures and Startup Creativity
A keynote fireside chat with Eric Paley, Secretary of the Executive Office of Economic Development for Massachusetts, and Krishna Jonnalagadda, CTO of GE Vernova, reflected on Massachusetts' legacy of invention and GE Vernova's role in shaping the future of clean energy.
One of my personal highlights was the launch of Disciplined Entrepreneurship for Climate and Energy Ventures: 24 Steps to Build Solutions for People and the Planet. Co-authors Bill Aulet, Ben Soltoff, and MIT faculty introduced this new edition, tailored specifically for climate ventures. Listening to Bruce Crawford, CEO of NONA Technologies, share how he applied the framework made the book feel more realistic.
Another notable moment was the lightning pitches, where Greentown startups showcased their innovations from AI-driven building retrofits to smart thermal-energy storage, electric watercraft, and drones measuring forest biomass. Each pitch was a reminder of how diverse and creative climatetech solutions startup companies can be.
Looking Ahead to a Dynamic Future
By the end of the Summit, I left with information about different things with energy innovation. It wasn't just about showcasing technologies—it was about perseverance, collaboration. For me, the book's launch was meaningful, offering a structured path for climate ventures to thrive.
