How Freedom Energy’s 2024 Summer Internship Program Is Shaping Future Energy Leaders
This summer, Freedom Energy Logistics welcomed an outstanding group of interns who contributed immensely to the company while gaining valuable insights into the ever-evolving energy industry. The 2024 internship program not only enhanced their professional skills but also provided them with in-depth knowledge of how the energy sector operates, highlighting the importance of internships as a foundation for future careers.
Intern Experiences: Building Industry Knowledge
Interns like Micah Sheats, who worked in operations, were given a diverse range of opportunities that deepened their understanding of both internal processes and the broader energy landscape. Reflecting on his experience, Micah said, “The most valuable part of my internship at Freedom has been the diverse range of opportunities to meaningfully engage with both the company’s internal systems and the broader energy industry. The real-world experience I have gained, along with the valuable skills and insights acquired, would not have been possible without the trust and support of the Freedom team.”
For interns like Aidan Wood, the internship at Freedom transformed their understanding of the complex dynamics of the energy market. Aidan, who supported the Pricing and Contracts team, reflected, “The time and effort that Freedom invested in me has truly developed a deeply rooted interest and passion into the energy industry. I learned about how electricity and retail gas prices are constructed, how energy brokerage’s function, and how to best diversify risk for customers.” This immersion in the technical side of energy pricing gave Aidan a newfound appreciation for the industry’s intricacies, something that has continued to inspire his professional curiosity.
Success Stories and Career Development
Maurgan McGrath, who co-write this article, interned in HR and Accounting, also noted how the combination of industry-specific knowledge and real-world experience shaped her internship. She shared, “I have gained valuable knowledge about everyday HR and Accounting procedures as well as the energy industry. Everyone here truly supports each other and wants to see each other succeed.” The blend of her functional role with exposure to the energy market’s unique demands broadened her perspective on the critical interplay between operations and energy industry requirements.
A highlight of this year’s program was Aditya Goushal, a Marketing Intern who accepted a full-time role as a B2B Marketing Specialist. While marketing was his focus, Aditya also gained a strong understanding of the energy sector during his time at Freedom. He reflected on his journey, “The opportunity to delve into the energy industry and gain hands-on experience in social media marketing has been invaluable. My internship has further enriched my skill set and prepared me for a future in digital marketing.” Aditya’s transition from intern to full-time employee exemplifies how internships at Freedom open doors to both industry knowledge and career development.
The Future of Freedom Energy: Growing the Internship Program
As Freedom continues to expand, the internship program will play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of energy professionals. The exposure to the energy industry, coupled with practical, hands-on experience, gives interns an unparalleled foundation for their future careers. Whether through operations, pricing, HR, or marketing, each intern leaves with a deeper understanding of the energy sector and how it impacts their work.
Freedom’s commitment to fostering talent is evident, as seen in the diverse experiences of Micah, Aidan, Maurgan, and Aditya. By cultivating industry knowledge alongside professional skills, the internship program ensures that Freedom’s future—and the future of its interns—continues to thrive in the dynamic energy market.
As the company grows, the internship program will evolve, providing even more opportunities for interns to engage with the energy sector and contribute meaningfully to the company. With its focus on both personal and professional development, the internship program is not just a steppingstone for the interns—it is also a crucial part of Freedom’s long-term vision for success.
Through this internship program, Freedom is investing not only in the talent of today but also in the future of the energy industry. As we continue to grow, so will our efforts to nurture the next generation of professionals who are poised to shape the future of energy.
