May 2026 NH Muni Minute

Earlier this month, New Hampshire's annual clean energy week was back with 30+ events statewide, most of which were free and open to the public (registration is typically required). The calendar included policy, workforce, and technology conversations, plus on‑the‑ground site tours that highlight how local projects are improving resilience and lowering long‑term energy costs. One featured example was a tour that showcased how a New Hampshire business is pairing operations with onsite solar, which is the kind of practical model towns often ask about when weighing local sustainability goals alongside rate stability. For municipal leaders, the bigger takeaway was a week that created a "single stop" opportunity to hear what's working across the state from permitting improvements to resilience hubs and real-world deployment lessons that can be copied by communities. The week was designed to give residents, businesses, and municipalities the opportunity to explore and learn about a wide range of energy and generation options.

Freedom Energy Logistics, in partnership with Patriot Hydro, hosted a hydro facility tour at Amoskeag during NH Clean Energy Week. The event brought together municipal leaders, businesses, and community members for a practical look at local hydroelectric generation in action.
Attendees participated in a guided walk-through of the facility, gaining insight into how hydroelectric power is produced, its role in regional energy supply, and the operational considerations behind maintaining reliable renewable generation. The tour provided a valuable, real-world perspective on one of New Hampshire's key renewable energy resources.

Freedom Energy Logistics was named a Bronze Stevie® Award winner in the “Energy – Small” category in the 24th Annual American Business Awards®. The awards ceremony is scheduled for June 9 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York. The press release notes that more than 3,600 nominations were submitted across industries and includes a quote from CEO Bart Fromuth emphasizing that the recognition reflects company growth, team dedication, and commitment to customized energy solutions, including renewable offerings that support client sustainability goals.

Freedom Energy Logistics joined more than 600 women at the New England Women in Energy and the Environment 15th Annual Awards Gala in Boston on May 7. The event recognized outstanding leadership and professional dedication across the energy and environmental sectors.
The program featured an engaging keynote from FERC Commissioner Judy Chang, who shared thoughtful perspectives on the current energy landscape and the importance of strong, collaborative leadership in shaping the industry’s future. The evening also celebrated this year’s award recipients, including Leadership Award honoree Maria Gulluni and Rising Star Alexis Washburn, whose contributions highlight the continued advancement of innovation and excellence across the region.
Beyond the celebration, the gala provided an opportunity to connect with peers across policy, utilities, and clean energy, reinforcing the importance of cross-sector collaboration. The evening reflected a shared commitment to progress highlighting emerging policy discussions, strengthening relationships within the industry, and underscoring the forward-thinking work shaping New England’s energy future.
Freedom Energy Logistics extends its appreciation to NEWIEE for hosting an event that brings together leadership, community, and meaningful dialogue in a way that continues to elevate and advance the work of the energy sector.

Members of the Freedom Energy Logistics team participated in the 36th Annual Families in Transition Walk Against Hunger, an event focused on supporting individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across New Hampshire.
Through team participation and fundraising efforts totaling $800, support was contributed to Families in Transition’s mission of providing essential food assistance and community resources.
In addition to the walk itself, the event provided an opportunity for community engagement and collaboration, bringing together local organizations and volunteers committed to addressing a critical need within the region.

Freedom Energy Logistics was proud to support the Manchester Police Athletic League (MPAL) Cornhole Tournament, a local initiative that directly invests in youth and community programming across Manchester.
This year, Chuck and Howard once again represented Freedom in the tournament, hoping to build on last year's winning performance while continuing a tradition of community involvement. While the Killer Watts tried their best, it came down to the final round and our team succumbed to second place.
Participation in events like MPAL reflects more than sponsorship, it's part of Freedom's commitment to the communities we serve. Supporting organizations that create safe spaces, mentorship opportunities, and youth engagement aligns directly with the values we bring into our client relationships every day.

Recent Business & Industry Association (BIA) programming including events hosted at venues like LaBelle Winery continues to highlight the strength of New Hampshire's local business ecosystem.
Freedom team members attended the latest BIA-sponsored gathering, connecting with business leaders across industries and reinforcing relationships that directly support municipal, local business, and commercial collaboration across the state.
For communities, events like these are more than networking they create alignment between local businesses, policymakers, and energy advisors. That alignment is what drives better outcomes, whether it's economic development, sustainability initiatives, bottom-line business initiative, or long-term energy planning.
Freedom's continued presence in these settings ensures we stay closely connected to the needs, priorities, and opportunities emerging across New Hampshire.

Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) momentum continues to build across New Hampshire, with multiple communities moving from planning stages into active rollout.
Across the state, municipalities are shifting energy supply from a default utility outcome into a managed strategy — one that prioritizes cost control, transparency, and long-term budget stability.
As towns evaluate their options, it's important to understand that not all CCA approaches are structured the same way. Some models rely heavily on external administration, while others provide more flexibility and control through advisor-supported procurement strategies. The right structure depends on each community's goals, timeline, and internal resources.
For towns preparing to move forward, the near-term focus should include:
- Finalizing plan approvals and regulatory steps
- Aligning supply strategy and contracting timelines
- Preparing customer communications (mailers, FAQs, outreach)
- Scheduling public meetings and education sessions
- Establishing clear opt-out and enrollment timelines
How Freedom Helps:
Freedom works directly with municipalities to guide every stage of the CCA process from feasibility and planning through launch and ongoing optimization ensuring communities are positioned to act strategically, not reactively.

Day Ahead Ancillary Services (DAAS) is an ISO New England market mechanism designed to procure operating reserves and reliability services a day ahead. ISO‑NE implemented DAAS as part of the Day‑Ahead Ancillary Services Initiative (DASI) when the Forward Reserve Market retired.
ISO‑NE has publicly stated it observed reliability and market improvements after launch, but also acknowledged that costs have been higher than predicted due to changes in system conditions (including demand and fuel price dynamics) and that it is working through stakeholder and FERC processes on potential adjustments.
For your 1‑minute read, the punchline is: “DAAS was built for reliability — now the region is debating how to keep that reliability benefit while improving cost‑effectiveness.”
